Ministry Locations The Dominican Republic is one of Kids Alive's most extensive field operations. Currently there are eleven sites and because of the caliber of staff and the quality of service, Kids Alive experiences continuous growth. In 2003, the number of children in residential care grew by 48%, and the number of children in non-residential care grew by 25%. Currently 746 children and young adults are cared for by 10 missionaries, 10 national ministry directors and various support personnel. The Dominican Republic is a popular destination of work teams, not only because of its close proximity to the United States, but because the quality of the experience and the organization of the projects are top notch. In 2006, 36 service teams (with an average of ten people per team) went to the Dominican Republic. It’s also a popular destination of short term missionaries who are willing to serve the Lord with their time and talent. The Dominican Republic is currently served by Field Directors: Jeff and Ann Van Der Molen, Vic and Leslie Trautwein, and national’s Ramon and Juana Prenza. There are also a number of long-term missionaries: Jan Burkey, Kerry and Milagros Dougan, Bill and Juliana Hansen, and national’s Angel and Jacquelin Moreta. Numerous Short-Term Missionaries put their skills to good use, overseeing volunteer service teams working on construction projects, providing administrative support, and organizing summer programs. |
