Lebanon: Moses' Basket Care Center
LEBANON HOME

LOCATION

Lebanon is one of the world’s smallest countries, and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, Syria, and Israel.

The ‘Dar El Awlad’ Children’s Home is situated on a mountain ridge overlooking the capital city, Beirut. Dar El Awlad School and Moses' Basket Care Center are located on the same campus.

BACKGROUND

The Care Center program was first opened in 2000 by a missionary in an apartment in Mansourieh, the town where the Boys’ Home is located. In October 2003 Kids Alive International took responsibility for the program and the Center moved on to the Dar El Awlad campus.

FACILITIES
The Moses' Basket Care Center is located in a ground-floor apartment and has two brightly colored play rooms, a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. There is also an outdoor covered play area.

PROGRAMS

The program is open from 7.30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. onweekdays. It helps pre-school children from very poor families living in the local area, reaching out to them with practical Christian care and support. Many of these families are not Lebanese, and the program provides care for children who are Filipinos, Sri Lankan, Sudanese, and Syrian. Activities the children take part in each week include playing with water and sand, cooking, painting, and ball games. Children also learn some basic Arabic and English, and every day the children are taught Bible stories and songs. A maximum of twelve children are cared for in the program at one time. Once the children reach the age of four years they are able to transfer to Dar El Awlad School.

FUTURE
More children will be accepted to the program over the coming year. We are planning to develop the teaching program for our children aged three and four years.
