LOCATION

The country of Myanmar, formerly Burma, is in Southeast Asia on the Indian Ocean between India and China. This long narrow country runs over a thousand miles from north to south and the climate varies from tropical to wintry. Mountains, rivers and forests mark the terrain.

BACKGROUND

In keeping with our Strategic Plan, Kids Alive partnered with national ministries in Myanmar in 1998 to help care for some of the “poorest of the poor” children of the world. The average wage in Myanmar is approximately 6,000-8,000 juts ($6.00-$8.00) per month, and a bag of rice is hardly affordable; more than 10,000 juts ($10)! With severe poverty such as this, many of the children’s homes that we have “adopted” have no income; they live and care for the children by faith and the food contributions they receive from caring individuals.

Kids Alive cares for more than 2,400 children in our children’s homes, care centers and schools. Our ministries in Myanmar are supervised by both our Kids Alive UK and Kids Alive USA offices. Kids Alive USA oversees three children’s homes. (For security reasons, we have not listed these homes by name.)
