Denisa Care Center

LOCATION

Romania is located in southeastern Europe. It borders Hungary, Serbia, the Ukraine, Bulgaria, the Black Sea, and Moldova. The Children’s Home is located in the village of Dobrun in southern Romania.

BACKGROUND

Kids Alive International has operated in Romania since 1999, starting with a residential home, the “House of Hope” for abandoned babies. In addition to the Home, which started in 2001, we purchased land and a building in 2004 in the town of Dobrun to open a Care Center program, the “Denisa Care Center”.

FACILITIES

The building purchased in 2004 was renovated and a second floor was added.  That second floor is where Denisa opened its program in the spring of 2007.  The first floor is still in the process of being finished as the funding becomes available.

PROGRAMS

The Denisa Care Center is impacting the lives of 25 children.   We help them get ready to go to school and give them an opportunity to develop physically, educationally and spiritually. The children spend four hours every day at the Center. We provide them with clothing (when necessary), school supplies, a nutritious meal, and teachers who help with their homework every day. This is vital, because children in Romania do their homework at home, and if parents haven’t had an education they aren’t able to help them. By touching these children’s lives we will impact their families, the community, and the Romanian educational system in our area. Additionally, employment opportunities at the Center provide jobs for a number of people in the community.

The Denisa Care Center also has a small library, where the children come and read or borrow books. There are sport fields and a recreation area. Children also enjoy the opportunity to gain intercultural experience by corresponding with sponsors from other countries.

FUTURE

We would like to increase the number of children, as funding permits, and improve the facilities and resources available in the center.
