Zambia: Emmanuel Kids Alive Center and School

ZAMBIA HOME

LOCATION

The Emmanual Kids Alive Center and School is located near the town of Mongu in Western Zambia.

HISTORY

Construction on a two-roomed school was completed in May 2003. This village project also has a sewing program for women, and a carpentry project for boys no longer in school. The Director of the program is Manuelly Nyumbui.

FACILITIES

Facilities include a thatched-roof, two-roomed school, and two smaller structures for the sewing and carpentry programs.


PROGRAM

The program consists of classes for children in grades 1-7. The children also receive a noon meal, five days per week. Currently, there are 183 orphans and vulnerable children in the program. In addition, sewing classes are taught to women to provide an income stream. Young boys are men are able to learn carpentry skills at the Center, as well.

FUTURE

This program will expand to include the construction of homes for widows and their children.
