Zambia: Lilato Two Children's Home

ZAMBIA HOME

LOCATION

The Lilato Two Children’s Home & Preschool (Lilato means Love) is located in the small town of Mongu, Zambia. Zambia is a land-locked country in southern Africa, just south of Congo and north of Zimbabwe.

HISTORY

The Kids Alive Zambia project began in 1999 with a visit to Zambia by members of the Kids Alive Canada Board who were aware of the devastating impact of the AIDS crisis on the children of the country. A Zambian board of directors was formed in 2000 and in 2002 the Lilato Children’s Home was opened.

FACILITIES

John and Christine Chitumbo, as well as a team of caregivers, are the house parents at the Lilato Two Children's Home.

PROGRAM

All of the children in this home, with the exception of one, attend a local government school. Total care in a loving atmosphere for these children, includes a safe place to sleep, good nutritional meals, medical attention, and Christian discipleship.
