Zambia: Lilato Four Children's Home

ZAMBIA HOME

LOCATION
The Lilato Four Home is located in the small town of Mongu, Zambia. Zambia is a landlocked country in southern Africa, just south of Congo and north of Zimbabwe.

HISTORY

The Kids Alive Zambia project began in 1999 with a visit to Zambia by members of the Kids Alive Canada Board who were aware of the devastating impact of the AIDS crisis on the children of the country. A Zambian board of directors was formed in 2000. Since then, Kids Alive Zambia has been opening children’s homes, schools, and care centers whenever possible in order to rescue children affected and infected by the AIDS virus.

FACILITIES

David and Judith Nyumbuhe are the house parents of the Lilato Four Children's Home in Mongu which opened in the spring of 2004.

PROGRAM

The children in this home will grow up in a loving atmosphere that includes a safe place to sleep, good nutritional meals, medical attention, and Christian discipleship. All the children in this home, apart from one preschooler, attend local government schools.

FUTURE

It is predicted that within the next 10 years a large percentage of the adult population will die or be dying from AIDS. This means that many children will be left without any parent to care for them. As the AIDS pandemic leaves in its wake children with no one to care for them, more children will be admitted into the Kids Alive Zambia homes. Those children raised with the love of Christ and the discipline of committed parents or house parents will lead the country in the future.
