LOCATION HISTORY The Kids Alive Zambia project began in 1999 with a visit to Zambia by members of the Kids Alive Canada Board who were aware of the devastating impact of the AIDS crisis on the children of the country. A Zambian board of directors was formed in 2000. Since then, Kids Alive Zambia has been opening children’s homes, schools, and care centers whenever possible in order to rescue children affected and infected by the AIDS virus. FACILITIES Winston and Maggie Mwale are the house parents of the Lilato Five Children's Home and Preschool, which is a home built by Kids Alive. There are currently nine children living at Lilato Five, all under the age of three.
PROGRAM Total care in a loving atmosphere for these children includes a safe place to sleep, good nutritional meals, medical attention, and Christian discipleship. FUTURE It is predicted that within the next ten years a large percentage of the adult population will die or be dying from AIDS. This means that many children will be left without any parent to care for them. As the AIDS pandemic leaves in its wake children with no one to care for them, more children will be admitted into the Kids Alive Zambia homes. |
